1. What number do I call regarding my power bill?

Call the main City Office Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm

2. What should I do to prepare for a power outage?

- Know where your flashlights are located and make sure the batteries work.

- Have a battery operated or hand crank radio available.

- Have extra batteries, a hand crank can opener and wind up clock available.

- Have a telephone available that does not require electricity. This is especially true for the elderly or those with special health needs. (Cordless phones require electricity to operate).

- Turn off electrical appliances such as air conditioners, refrigerators, televisions and computers. This will help avoid power spikes when electrical service is restored. Wait 15 minutes after restoration of power before turning on appliances.

- Avoid opening the refrigerator/freezer. Food will stay frozen for 36 - 48 hours in a fully loaded freezer if the door stays closed.

- Neighborhood Fire Stations have emergency power and are available for those with special needs.

3. Where does Ephraim get its power from?

We are associated with Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems:
UAMPS. consists of 45 members across 8 Western States.
- Colorado River Storage Project (CRSP) located in Page AZ, this is power from the Glen Canyon Dam (Lake Powell).
-Hunter Project Located in Emery County, UT,
- Intermountain Power Project (IPP) Located in Delta Ut,
- Firm Power Supply Project which includes the wind purchase from the Pleasant Valley Wind Facility through Iberdrola Renewables LLC.
-Horse Butte Project Located approximately 16 miles east of the City of Idaho Falls
- Carbon Free Power Project which is investigating the viability of developing a small modular reactor project using NuScale technology. The SMR project could consist of twelve 50 MW reactors located at the Idaho National Laboratory near Idaho Falls, ID. UAMPS has entered into a teaming agreement with NuScale and Energy Northwest that outlines the parties role in developing the project.
Ephraim also has 4 hydro powered generators that generate up to 5 MW of internal hydro power yearly.

4. How does power get to my home or business?

A transmission system moves power to the City. The distribution system delivers the energy to transformers located throughout the system. Secondary lines take the energy from a transformer to a home or business.

5. If I have a medical condition that requires oxygen or other special equipment can my home be assured of having power even if my neighborhood is experiencing an outage?

If there is an outage that is affecting your area, it is not possible to restore power to any one home or business until the situation has been resolved and power is available to all customers in the affected area. It is recommended you make arrangements in advance to provide for your medical needs in the event of a power outage.
