EPHRAIM NAMES NEW CITY MANAGER

EPHRAIM, UT – On April 5, 2019, Shaun S. Kjar of Ephraim, signed a contract with Ephraim City as the new City Manager.

Ephraim’s former City Manager, Brant Hanson, was offered a City Manager position with Centerville, Utah, which began on March 25, 2019.

The vacant position was advertised locally and throughout the State of Utah. The City Council met and reviewed 34 impressive applications, 5 of which were selected for interview. After much deliberation with City department heads and Staff, the Council has concluded that Mr. Kjar is the best candidate to serve in this position.

Because of commitments to the College, Mr. Kjar will not begin his new position until May, 6, 2019. He has a Master’s degree in Human Resource from Utah State University, and two Bachelor’s degrees, also from USU; one in Political Science and the other in Intercultural Communication & Social Influence. Mr. Kjar has worked many years for Snow College, and currently serves as Snow College Adjunct and Assistant Professor in Communications and Business.

Shaun Kjar has been a resident of Ephraim for more than 10 years. He was born and raised in Manti where he graduated from Manti High School, then went on to graduate Snow College, and Utah State University. In 2008, he married Analee Wheeler, a lifetime resident of Ephraim. They feel fortunate to be able to raise their family where they grew up. They have three children ages 9, 5, and 1. Shaun hopes to instill the same values of hard work and quality in them that he learned from his parents.

Lately, Shaun has been an Assistant Professor of Communication at Snow College. Over the past 10 years, he has held multiple positions at Snow College including Admissions Advisor, GBEEC Director, and Assistant Director of Student Life. Shaun has been teaching communication classes for 9 years, the past three years full-time. His classes included Public Speaking, Organizational Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication and more. He has been a DJ for Mid Utah Radio in Manti almost 2 years. Shaun feels lucky that he has been able to work at the jobs he dreamed about in his youth. He is an avid runner and outdoor enthusiast. He loves working with people, solving problems and helping wherever he can. Shaun has a lot of energy and insight and looks forward to bringing those to his new role as Ephraim City Manager.
